A 25-year-old member asked:
can you use external creams on internal hemorrhoid?

Depends: Most prescription meds used to treat hemorrhoids can be used both internally and externally. I would be cautious of over the counter meds unless the label/instruction specifically approve for internal use.

Yes: Most come with an applicator to get the cream an inch or two inside the anus where internal hemorrhoids are located.

A 24-year-old member asked:
On average, how long should it take for an internal hemorrhoid to heal with a rectal ointment?

Won't heal: The creams and treatments are usually symptomatic and don't "cure" internal hemorrhoids. Even with surgical removal or banding, they will most likely come back. The goal is to make them symptomatically tolerable and to avoid complications.

Low Fiber Diet: Hemorrhoids form because of an increase in the pressure inside your intestines that comes about because of low fiber in your diet. You need to take a fiber supplement every day for the rest of your life, or increase the fiber in your diet dramatically to get them to go away. Hope this helps.

Life: Once you have a hermmorrhoid it stays there unless you remove it or get rid of it by banding. It is like a varicose vein in the legs. It may get larger or smaller but stay tgere.
