Multiple factors: Maximum dosage for any medication depends on multiple factors including age, kidney & liver function and any other health issues. Atarax, (hydroxyzine) the brand name, is no longer available. Hydoxyzine, the generic, is an antihistamine. And can be useful for short periodsl but is not considered very safe for longer periods. For an otherwise healthy person, the maximum dose is 100mg.
