Yes: Yes in people at risk, quinine can cause kidney problems. Chronic high doses can decrease the flow through the kidneys and cause damage, which can be permanent. Short term exposure especially at high doses can also cause damage, although this type of exposure is usually reversible. The risks and the benefits of this and any medication must be weighed.
