Curve: When viewed from the back, the spine is straight. When there is a curvature, and that curve is greater than 10 degrees, it is called scoliosis. The low back is called the lumbar region of the spine, the middle back is called thoracic. So a thoracolumbar scoliosis is a curve that is located in an area encompassing the junction of the thoracic and lumbar spine.
