Sometimes.: If you have a "temporary" pulpitis (momentary pain), it can provide relief. If your tooth is abscessing (pain lasting longer than 10 minutes), it will not help. You really need a dentist to evaluate the situation and decide if it may provide relief.

Short-Term Only: Any pain medication or anti-inflammatory drug can help with the symptoms of pulpitis, just like any other painful condition. However, medications never address the cause of the tooth pain. That can only be done by your dentist, generally by getting inside the tooth & fixing whatever's wrong. Sometimes it can be fixed from outside the tooth too. You can't do it yourself, however, so see a dentist.
