Leaking, hernia: The type of problems varies a little with the type of stoma ( colostomy, ileostomy) and when/why it was made. Emergency stomas have a high rate of hernia at the stoma that may need surgery to correct. Leaking from the stoma can be a problem with ileostomies, especially if previous surgery has scars nearby. Prolapse can also occur but is not often problematic.
