One-side laminectomy: Hemi means half and each of your backbone (vertebrae) has two lamina (plate of bone), one on each side. Thus a hemilaminectomy means surgical removal of one the affected laminae on one side of your backbone. Hope this helps. Good luck to you if you are undergoing such surgery.
