Depends: It depends on staging of the disease, it can affect entire body, so work up and staging is very imortant including pathology.

A 48-year-old member asked:
What causes non-hodgkin lymphoma and why does it spread?

Complex question: There are many different types of non-hodgkin's lymphoma and they have many different causes. Some of the lymphomas are caused by viruses and bacteria (some burkitt lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma of the spleen, acute t-cell lymphoma). Others occur as people age because of the genetic mutations that are continually occurring in the immune system. Lymphomas spread because they are part of the immune system nd immune cells naturally travel around the body.
