Can you tell me the difference between peginterferon alfa 2a & peginterferon alfa 2b?

Drug names: Both are pegylated interferons. Peginterferon alfa 2a is made by roche branded Pegasys (peginterferon alfa 2a) and is a slightly larger molecule. Peginterferon 2B is made by schering and its dose is calculated based on body weight. The brand name is peg-intron. These drugs have similar efficacy and side effects.

Interferons: These are 2 different interferon molecules attached to peg. (polyethylene glycol). Alpha2a attached with lysine and Alpha 2B with histidine. Alpha 2has longer half life ; given weekly with no body wt consideration. Alpha 2B is short lived ; weight dependent dosage. Thanks.
