What are the long term effects of having a tracheotomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Taking care of it: The long term effects are just related to caring for it making sure it remains clean, open and free from infection. There is always a risk of bleeding and once removed ( if possible) scarring and narrowing of the airway. Crusting can sometimes be of concern requiring irrigations and possibly antibiotics.
