Goes up: Tsh (thyroid stimulating hormone) works by feedback mechanism with thyroid hormone (t4 and t3). Once the thyroid is removed, the source of thyroid hormone is removed. Without T4 and T3 (liothyronine) to suppress tsh, the TSH level will go up. Replacing thyroid hormone with levothyroxine will keep TSH in the normal range.
