Valve replacement: The risks for valve replacement surgery are similar to but slightly higher than for bypass surgery. Usually before surgery you will have a heart catheterization to evaluate for any coronary disease. After that your surgeon can discuss with you the risks on the basis of which valve needs replacement, any vascular disease and how well your heart pumps.
