What causes my kinky hair?

Shape of follicle: Hair follicles are different shapes. If you cut one crossways and looked at it under a microscope, you'd see that the follicle is either round or somewhat flat. The flatter the follicle, the more curly the strand of hair will be. Kinky hair is from flatter follicles.

Kinky Hair: Most kinky hair is caused by genetics. It may be the result of chemical processing which can damage localized areas of scalp or systemic steroid use in some cases. Other forms of scalp trauma may also cause the hair to kink.
