Yes and No: Valerian root tea does have very mild sedative effects. Which makes it a tea to drink in the evening to help with sleep onset in those who need it. The relaxing effect is extremely mild and no where close to the sedating effects of alcohol. Green tea has not been shown to have any sedative effects. In fact it has some caffeine in it, so if anything it would have the opposite effect.
