Training: From my experience working with nurse anesthetists, difference is training, which is much longer with anesthesiologists who are physicians. They are trained to deal with any kind of complications that can happen during and after an anesthetic. While most nurse anesthetists have harder time to deal and treat these complications. I f an anesthetic is uncomplicated either one can do a good job.

Med school: Anesthesiologist go through medical school and then do at least four more years of training to finish an internship and residency. Nurse anesthetists go through nursing school and then they may apply for a two and a half year training program after working some time as a nurse.
