Can neurontin (gabapentin) cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome?

Highly Unlikely: Neurontin (generic gabapentin) is not a neuroleptic but an anti-epileptic medication. It is fda approved to treat siezures and pain syndromes. Off-label it is used in psychiatry to treat mood disorders. It has been linked to serotonin syndrome when used with ssri type medications but not with neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
