Dr. Thomas Deberardino answered

No one simple test: Malignant hyperthermia is a rare life-threatening condtion often triggered by exposure to certain volatile anesthetic gases and succinylcholine (anesthesia uses this during surgery). The metabolism of the skeletal muscle goes into "overdrive", and it is this oxidative process that overwhelms the body's ability to supply oxygen, remove c02. The result is poor regulation of body temperature.
