A 52-year-old member asked:
do pickles have iodine in it?

Maybe: Pickles contain a lot of salt. Much of the salt used in commercially processed foods includes a small amount of sodium iodide in with the sodium chloride. So whether or not a pickle has iodine in it would depend upon whether or not the pickle-makers used salt with iodine, or plain salt.

A 50-year-old member asked:
Do you really need iodine to be healthy?

Yes: Iodine is an essential ingredient for making thyroid hormone. Your body needs about 100 mg of iodine daily. Most Americans get much more than this, because most processed foods in the US include salt supplemented with iodine. It is also present in many commercial baked goods as a preservative/dough conditioner, in red & brown food dyes, and in seafood from the ocean.

Iodine: Iodine is necessary for certain functions in the body, but most important is the thyroid. The thyroid hormone consists of tyrosine and iodine and without sufficient iodine in the system the body can not make thyroid hormone, another tissue that utilizes a lot of iodine is the breast tissue. Iodine also has antibacterial and antiviral properies for the body.

Depends: If the pickle was fixed in brine which contains iodized salt, then it will contain iodine. Otherwise it might not contain iodine.
