What are complications of labor epidurals?

See below: Labor epidurals are used to decrease pain in childbirth. They are usually safe and effective. There are rare complications including lowering of the blood pressure which can decrease blood flow to the baby (low BP is immediately tx), slowing of labor due to numbing of nerves needed to push the baby thru the birth canal. Other side effects depend on the drug given-itching if opiate used.
