What causes a blood clot in the leg?

Dvt: If we are talking about a venous clot the its also termed a dvt. These can be dangerous because they can trave to the lung and cause a pulmonary embolis. These are lfethreatening.Causes od DVT are trauma, hypercoagulopathy, cancers, etc. Many pts are bed ridden. They may be smokers or on birth controll.

Three main reasons: Thrombophlebitis is venous thrombosis and associated inflammation of the affected vein. Also referred to as DVT or deep vein thrombosis. It is almost always the result of one or more of 3 conditions (known as virchow's triad): 1stasis of blood, 2 endothelial injury or 3 hyper-coagulability. Common causes for each: 1 long trip 2 post surgery or trauma 3 birth control pills or blood disorder.

Several factors : can cause a blood clot in the leg. Most commonly when the blood doesn't flow well or pools in an area of the leg during prolonged inactivity, the blood can become "sticky" due to clotting factors and can form a clot.
