Practice, then preach: The mopst important point is to set a good example by eating prudently and exercising. Exercise, when you can do it with a child, is best. Keep your home free of junk food and sugared beverages. Obesity is not only cosmetic, but poses long term health risks. The likelyhood of a teenager who is obese at 16m is a virtual; lock on obesity for the rest of there lives. Maje sure your weight is ok.

Esier said than done: As always, it comes down to balancing intake & exercise. Most very overweight children overeat, drink too much sugar and get minimal exercise. It's obviously much more complex than that, involving genetic, social & other factors, but if those 3 things improve, weight usually improves. In general it's best to start with 1 change & for most families i know stopping sugary drinks is a good 1st step.
