Doesn't make sense: In macular degeneration, the problem is with the retina, not the cornea. If macular degeneration is really the problem, a corneal transplant will not help.

Unrelated: Having macular degeneration does not cause or prevent the treatment of corneal diseases that require corneal transplantation. Getting the transplant will likely improve the vision as much as possible and allow clearer inspection of the macula. Ask your ophthalmologists for the specifics of his case.
