A member asked:

What device is used to remove plaque during an endarterectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Penfield Elevator: Open endarterectomy is done through a surgical incision with an instrument that looks like a spatula with a small rounded end. The plaque is held with a forceps while the elevator pushes the remaining artery away. Sharp scissors are sometimes needed.
