What is an octreotide scan?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Type of tumor scan: Used to find carcinoid and certain other tumors. Octreotide (similar to somatostatin) is labelled with a radioactive tracer and injected. It binds to carcinoid tumor cells and certain other tumors with somatostatin receptors. A nuclear medicine camera can image the location and distribution of the tumor cells.
