Bone Grafts: There are two types of bone graft: allograft & autograft. Allograft is available via a tissue bank; it is processed to be safe for transplantation. Autograft requires harvesting of bone from another location on your body. Sometimes, this is better as there are growth factors in this tissue. It does have the risk of a second op site. Your surgeon weighs the risks & benefits when making this choice.

Depends: Your own bone is the gold standard. However, patients often do not want to have bone cut out from another area of their own body. Very pain full and a slow recovery. More patients are choosing, cadaver, cow, bone morphogenic protein or synthetic bone for a quicker and less painful recovery.
