Mild: This is the lowest dose estrogen containing birth control on the market. Side effects include breast tenderness, mild weight gain (5#or less), irregular bleeding, dizziness, change in appetite, headache & bloating. Severe side effects include blood clots, stroke, pain, heart problems etc. As with most birth control estrogens, these are possible but rare.

No: The side effects are similar to any low dose ethinyl Estradiol birth control pill and are probably less with nuvaring.

Perhaps not: As with birth control pills, some women may not have the withdrawal bleeding on occasion. This is due to the fact that NuvaRing contains both estrogen and progestin. Estrogen makes the uterine lining grow whereas the progestin makes it thinner. Progestin always dominates so most women will experience lighter periods. Sometimes the lining becomes so thin that no withdrawal bleeding occurs.
