Up to 2 weeks: It generally takes several days for your urinary levels of HCG to get elevated enough to be detected, but it can take as much as 2 wks. Over-the-counter tests aren't always as sensitive as tests at your doctor's office, but even those usually take at least a few days after you're late to turn positive. Recheck a week or two later if you're late for your period & suspect you might be pregnant.

May do the test one week after a missed period and repeat it a week later if still no period. The test can be positive even before your period is missed

Is a home pregnancy test accurate a week after missed period ?

Pregnancy test ?'s: Generally, a home pregnancy test is accurate at a week following a missed period, but if ovulation was delayed, your period will be as well. Wait another week and if no menstrual flow, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.

When should I take a pregnancy test for accurate results after a missed period ?

Depends on variables: The quality and source of the test can influence the outcome. The first morning urine is probably more accurate than a random one. Respected brand OTC tests are more sensitive than some dollar store products. You may be able to detect a positive as soon as you miss your expected period, but it also may take another week or so to turn positive.

EPT: For more accuracy - consider taking an early pregnancy test (because HCG levels might not be high enough to trigger a standard home pregnancy test prior to missed period).
