Consultation: Consult with your doctor about the fact your are planning a pregnancy. They will take a careful family history to look for red flags, may do pre-pregnancy genetic screening for recessive diseases and other screening labs, will prescribe prenatal vitamins with extra folate, (folic acid) will discuss foods and activities to avoid in pregnancy, and encourage healthy life style and optimal weight. Good luck!
