Replacement therapy: The only treatment known to be effective is thyroid hormone replacement therapy, which gives you back what you need. There are some herbal and food remedies that can be tried in conjunction with hormone replacement, but their effectiveness is sketchy.

Brand name t4: Use brand name T4 replacement. Your doctor will need to check the blood levels to make sure you are receiving the right dose. Once stable, it generally only needs to be checked once/year.

Low blood thyroid: Hypothyroidism is due to an under active thyroid. The most common cause is hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition that leads to an inability of the thyroid to produce the proper amount of hormone.
