A member asked:

Is a nstemi the same thing as unstable angina?

No: Unstable angina and nstemi are now bundled in the term "acute coronary syndrome", they are really different problems. In simple terms a nstemi is a heart attack that has happened already, unstable angina is a heart attack about to happen. Nowadays, both groups of patients are thought to do better with an invasive strategy (angiography and possible angioplasty).

No: A non st elevation myocardial infarction (nstemi) results in some degree of permanent damage to the heart muscle. Unstable angina does not.
