In some cases: In some cases this can be helpful . In my experience these trigger points are often the result of dysfunction of the deeper tissues in the joints and ligaments and i get better results if i address these problems rather than deal with the problems at the surface such as trigger points. Often the trigger points will go away if the deeper structures are treated properly.

Deep massage: Trigger points are taut bands of muscle that are tender to palpation. Trigger point release involves applying deep pressure with or without massage to "release" or loosen the muscle tissue. This is a very conservative option. If that fails often trigger point injections can help. See example: http://www.Americanownews.Com/story/20031841/former-football-player-finds-relief-from-neck-pain.
