What's the difference between the mmr and the mmrv?

6 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Chicken pox: The mmrv contains the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) plus the varicella vaccine (chicken pox). There is a higher amount of chicken pox vaccine in the mmrv vaccine than in the chicken pox vaccine alone. The mmrv vaccine has a higher rate of seizures caused by fever (febrile seizures) when compared to the MMR vaccine. The mmrv vaccine reduces the number of shots that the child has to get.
