The yellow jacket is: A wasp (not a bee). The bumblebee ; the yellow jacket both lack barbs on their stingers - so they can sting repeatedly. One difference is that the yellow jacket is very aggressive. A bumblebee usually only stings if you harm it or if it is protecting it's nest. The yellow jacket can both sting and bite ! when the female yellow jacket strikes, it releases a pheromone that signals other yellow.
