Exercise: Walking barefoot on soft surfaces such as carpet or sand would allow for more involvement of muscle groups in the foot. One could argue that is provide some exercise benefits. Walking barefoot on hard surfaces especially if there are underlying biomechanical or structural faults could eventually lead to a number of painful conditions.
