Others include multi-infarct or vascular dementia, lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementias, huntington's disease, creutzfeld-jakob disease. Approximately 1 percent of dementia cases are reversible. They include operable brain tumors, vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid disease, alcoholism or depression.

Four main types: There are four main types of progressive degenerative dementias: alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, dementia with lewy bodies and fronto-temporal dementia. However, dementia could be caused by other conditions as well, e.g., brain injury, aids.
