A member asked:

How will my doctor evaluate nipple discharge?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Many ways: The evaluation will consist of history taking, examination, and labs. Nipple discharge when non pregnant isn't normal. Some medications can initiate the discharge, along with excessive breast stimulation. Abnormal prolactin levels produced in excess from the pituitary gland can cause the discharge. Lastly benign breast conditions are most common, but malignancies need to be ruled out.
