Local tissue: Destruction. Basal cell carcinomas of the skin invade surrounding tissues and destroy normal structures, including bone. A term for basal cell carcinoma is "rodent ulcer", likely based on its ability to gnaw at the surrounding tissues. Removal of the lesion is usually curative.
