What must my little one expect before pediatric anesthesiology?

Pediatric Anesthesia: It can be a strange and scary experience for a little one before any procedure. The goal of anesthesia/sedation is to make that experience easier. Usually, the anesthesia team will meet with you before your procedure and explain how they will put child to sleep. Depending on child's age they will explain it to them. You should feel free to ask the team any questions you have concerns for.

Depends on situation: How old is your child, and what kind of surgery is needed? These factors will affect what is needed. Talk to the anesthesiologist in advance. Sometimes it is possible to put a child to sleep with a mask held lightly over the face so that the child breathes some anesthesia vapor to go to sleep. Sometimes it is necessary to start an iv. The pediatric anesthesiologist will plan the safest care.
