Most: Most lymphedem a is due to surgery that scars or eliminates lymphatic. Sometimes this is necessary as part of cancer surgery. Other lymphedem a can be from a parasite and it can be contracted by barefoot walking or insect bytes.

Learn manual lymph: Learn how to do manual lymph drainage - lymphatics are the plumbers for the body - so you need to work on opposite side and inverse (ie if it is left side work right side and if it is foot work on arm pits and neck) - to mobilze normal lymphatics. Lymphatics gets overwhelmed with sharp insult - so be careful about injury, and lifting. Heat is bad - so avoid hot showers. Flights are bad for lymph.

May not be possible: Prevention of lymphedema is probably not truly possible but treatment is. As dr. Brown said, if you have lymphedema learning how to do lymphatic massage is very important, as is wearing compression stockings, exercise, and weight loss if you are heavy.
