Sugar Cravings: I don't know if we know the reason but it is a common symptom of pms which makes me think it is hormonal but that is just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Glucose metabolism: Hormone changes that occur during the menstrual cycle can affect glucose metabolism. In the premenstrual period, women may be relatively Insulin resistant so when you eat sugar or processed carbs, you get a rapid increase in your blood levels of glucose followed by a rapid decrease which makes you feel that you need more sugar or carbs.
