Cardioversion?: Defibrillation is an unsynchronized shock that is used for ventricular fibrillation. Failure to defibrillate results in certain death. Tachycardia (atrial or ventricular) may be treated with synchronized cardioversion. When done under medical supervision with trained staff, it's extremely safe. The most significant risk is the tiny risk of anesthesia.
