Azelex (azelaic acid): According to epocrates, pregnancy category b "animal studies show no risk/adverse fetal effects but controlled human 1st trimester studies not available/do not confirm; no evidence of 2nd/3rd trimester risk; fetal harm possible but unlikely". Caution advised if breast feeding due to inadequate literature availability for assessing risk. Weigh possible risks against benefits.
