Learned response: Social interactions are commonly a learned response and you can look at your parents and friends for some of these behaviors. When you get excited tear flow can increase and the muscular activity involved in facial expression can temporarily diminish the size of the tear drainage so that the tears well up and over your cheek. Acting silly can be fun and is a useful tension release.
