A member asked:

When should someone have their tonsils removed these days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very specific: There are three major indications for tonsillectomy (these days). 1.) more than 3 to 4 documented episodes of acute suppurative (pus) tonsillitis. 2.) hypertrophy (enlargement) of the tonsils leading to a sleep disorder. And 3.) rarely, food particles caught in the crypts (furrows) of the tonsils resulting in a very bad mouth odor that truly effects the person's quality of life.
