Herniated Disks:: These cause pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness when severe. Approx 40% of the population have a herniated disk and no symptoms from it. There may be no symptoms or there may be severe pain with muscle weakness.

Neurologic: The symptoms of a lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus includes uni- or bi-lateral leg pain, can include back pain, possible weakness in the leg(s), and a numb sensation. Severe cases may include bowel/bladder difficulties, loss of perianal sensation, and paralysis.
