Like depression: Dysthymic disorder used to be called "minor depression" until researchers/clinicians realized that it can be as dibilitating as the "major" kind. The symptoms are the same: depressed or irritable mood, changes in appetite and sleep, low energy, poor self-esteem, trouble concentrating, & feelings of hopelessness. Severity overall is less, but duration is longer (2 years or more).
