Flu treatment: what is typically referred to as the flu is a virus, not a bacteria. Penicillin and other antibiotics do not treat a viral illness and are not indicated. Best approach is to get flu vaccine early in the season to prevent. Tamiflu (oseltamivir) may help shorten your symptom phase but can be expensive. It is not related to penicillin
