Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD: IF you have taken other brands of birth control and this has not helped to lighten your periods then changing to a different brand is also not likely to help. Consider going a different direction. Assuming your exam, sonogram and blood work have been confirmed to be normal by an Obgyn consider trying a Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD. This is a very effective method of controlling heavy menstrual cycles.
