Anovulation: Abnormal cycle patterns are associated with anovulation (not ovulating). The real concern for young women with abnormal cycle patterns (everything outside a 25 - 32 day range) is, whether they are ovulating at all and thus will be able to get pregnant (90 % of women want to). This is a complex question and should be addressed by a gynecologist in conjunction with the primary care physician.
