A member asked:

If you have diarrhea and close the lid on the toilet and then flush it, can e. coli particles get into the air and if so how far can they travel?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Why do you ask?: This is very unlikely. You need a fair dose of these E coli to get sick. Droplet transmission is unlikely in this setting in any case. Further, E coli are all around us. There's no avoiding others' gut flora in the long run. Stop worrying and go about having an enjoyable life.
